MATCHLOCK SAMURAI

The Art of Japanese Gunnery

Hojutsu is the art of Japanese gunnery.  Firearms first appeared on the battlefield in the the mid 1500's.  It did not take long until Lords and captains in feudal Japan wanted to equip their samurai and soldiers with these new weapons.

The Matsumoto Castle Gun Corps practices authentic battlefield tactics and martial skills, developed by the famed samurai of Japan.  We train in the Morishige ryu of hojutsu.

Along with a substantial collection of guns, the Matsumoto Castle Gun Corps possess equipment, armour and Edo era documents that provide instruction and advice on the use of firearms.  We regularly research and develop our skills, in order to keep the history of feudal Japan alive.

There is more to hojutsu than shooting...
